Processing Time

Processing time for custom orders is 4-8 weeks, depending on how many orders we have at any given time.  The average is almost always six weeks.   Please see below for information on rush orders if you need an earlier or specific shipping date.

  Ready Made and Fabric orders are shipped weekly.  Shipping by USPS will take 3-5 days within the US and longer internationally.

Rush orders are often available on request for a reasonable fee.  Please see below for fees and  use "Contact Us" tab above to coordinate before placing your order. 

Rush Order Fees for custom work are calculated on total cost of order and are 30% of the order total.  Please understand that we won't accept a rush order if we don't firmly believe we can complete it in time for you.


Graceful Threads is a home-based business committed to providing families with custom made modest clothing at a reasonable cost. We view this as a ministry to those who desire simple clothing but are not able to make it for themselves.  We trust that you will find our clothing to be well made and suitable to the needs of your family.  Our garments include simple, classic and contemporary designs which have been drawn from a variety of sources.  Beyond our own designs, a handful of  companies have permitted us to use their patterns, allowing us to continue offering new items regularly.  Most of these companies are also home businesses and we appreciate being able to support their endeavors.

On our fabric page you will find traditional calicos as well as bold, fun prints.  Don't be afraid to mix and match with coordinating colors for unique, one of a kind outfits.  We carry only high quality fabrics and welcome your suggestions for new fabric combinations.  Our garments are carefully sewn and edges are finished. Please enjoy browsing and e-mail or call us with any questions. Processing time is dependent on the number of orders we are working on, but rush orders are possible.  Our current processing time can be found beside this text on the left.  To order please use our secure shopping cart or print out an order form and send payment by check or credit card.  You may also call in or e-mail your order.  For those who need an order sent immediately, please check out the ready-made pages for garments ready to ship.

We do not pre-wash our fabric. Please allow for approximately 1 inch shrinkage per yard on our 100% cotton fabrics.  Please measure carefully and let us know if you have questions after looking at the size charts.  Almost all disappointments can be avoided by ordering the right size.

We recommend washing our cottons in cool or warm water.  Delicate cycle is recommended by the manufacturers but in our house, they are usually washed on regular cycle.  Hang to dry or tumble dry low.  We do not recommend hanging any of our clothing in direct, harsh sunlight.  Quilting cottons and yarn dyed cottons may begin to fade.  Please see Fabric Page for instructions on washing our Linen Blends.

We want you to be pleased with your purchase and if this is your first time ordering from us, we would recommend purchasing only one of a specific design to make sure you like the fit/style before ordering more. Most of our regular customers find the styles that work best for them and their children and then stock up in different fabric choices.  Because our clothing is carefully custom-made specifically for you in your choice of size and fabric, we do not take returns except in very special circumstances.  Please measure carefully before ordering, refer to our size charts and don't be shy about e-mailing with questions.  Because each customer likes a certain fit, we welcome communication if you are ever unsure about what size to order.  Most ladies items ask for a bust and waist measurement.  This is very helpful information for us if we have sizing questions.  If you need to return an item for alterations, please contact us so that we can discuss your needs.  In order to keep our prices low, there is a fee for the time spent doing alterations and we do ask the customer to pay for their return shipping.  We try very hard to satisfy our customers and will return your e-mail within 24 hours whenever possible.


We generally ship each Saturday and often once during the week if something needs to get out quickly.  We are not responsible for packages once they have left our hands and are in the USPS system.  Priority Mail does have tracking and you will receive an email with your tracking number the day that it ships.  If you would like additional insurance added (beyond $50) to cover your entire order, please just let us know and we can take care of that with you before shipping.  International orders can be shipped by First Class International (up to a certain weight which varies by country) or Priority Mail.  The former is less expensive but does not have the advantage of tracking or insurance.  If you are at all concerned about that, we would recommend paying a bit more and using Priority Mail.  The good news is that in seven years of business, not a single package has been lost by USPS, neither in country or internationally.  I like that track record!

Ready Made Returns:

Ready Made items may be returned if in unused, unworn condition.  There is a $5 restocking fee for each returned item.  This covers the cost in time to press the returned item and return it to the websites.

Cancellations and Changes:

If you need to cancel an order or change something in an existing order, please let us know immediately.  We totally understand that sometimes you will change your mind on a fabric, a size or a garment.   Once your order has been processed through the website we write it down, plan the fabrics and let you know we have received your order.  Work has therefore begun and we are unable to cancel an order or refund your items.  We are almost always able to accommodate alterations or small changes as long as the garment has not yet been cut.  Just send us an e-mail and we will get back to you ASAP.  Thanks for your understanding.

A Note on Order Processing from Elizabeth:

Following a very busy winter and spring of 2013, we have had to make some decisions regarding this ministry.  We weighed the option of hiring seamstresses to work for us but to do so, the cost of earning for ourselves and/or paying minimum wage in our state would increase garment cost by 50-60 percent and we felt that would be too much of a change for our long term and faithful customers.  Instead, we shall continue to keep our prices low and our personal income small but in return must ask for some flexibility on your part in process time.  We need to shorten our daily working hours to a reasonable length and take weekends off as well as leaving room for family life and those challenges that are bound to disturb our schedule from time to time.  We will continue to sew orders in the basic order that they are received and sew in blocks, by color, to save time.  The exception to this are large orders as we must often fit in smaller ones around them to keep things moving.  In general, during the change of seasons and any other time when orders pour in, you will see slightly longer wait times.  Our note when you check out will now say 4-8 weeks with our goal being to always get orders out as quickly as possible.  If you are one of our regular customers, you can help us minister to others by ordering regular seasonal clothing early, freeing up time for new customers who don't quite understand the amount of time it takes to hand cut and sew clothing.  Thanks so much for your help and understanding.


Your customer code is the initials of your first and last name.  Only custom orders appear here.  Ready made orders and fabric orders ship weekly.  Regular processing time for custom made clothing is between 4 and 8 weeks but in general average 6 weeks.  We hope you find this helpful and enjoy watching your order rise to the top of the chart.  On the far right you will see the estimated shipping date for your garments.  It is calculated to be about 6 weeks out from your time of purchase.  It is not intended as a guarantee or absolute but simply to help in your planning.  Barring emergency, ETSY orders will ship by the date promised when you purchased your garment.  Please check your receipt and contact me if you need an update.
